Round Head Square Neck Carriage Bolt
A carriage bolt has a smooth round head and square neck that prevents rotation during tightening. It is used with a nut in timber joints, fittings and metal components with a matching seat.

A carriage bolt leaves a rounded outer head without a driving recess. Its square neck engages the timber or a matching hole, allowing tightening from the nut side.
Technical features
ASME B18.5 is the inch-series dimensional reference for this configuration. Properties may be specified to SAE J429 grade 2 or 5, or ASTM A307 grade A. Zinc plating, galvanizing or black oxide is selected for the order.
Applications and assembly
Used in joinery, furniture, fencing and metal fittings. The neck must engage without preventing the head from bearing on the component.
