Tension Control (TC) Structural Bolt – ASTM F3125
A tension control bolt is installed with a tool that turns the nut while holding the splined end until it separates. It is used in steel erection with ASTM F3125 grade F1852 or F2280 assemblies.

A TC bolt forms an installation assembly with a compatible nut and washer. A dedicated wrench engages the nut and splined tail simultaneously; the tail separates during the tightening sequence.
Technical features
ASTM F3125: F1852 specifies at least 120 ksi tensile strength; F2280 specifies 150–173 ksi. These TC grades differ from the A325 and A490 heavy hex designations. ASME B18.2.6 defines applicable inch dimensions. Tensile strength is not pretension, which is verified through the installation procedure.
Applications and assembly
Used in industrial buildings, bridges and steel structures with pretensioned joints. Components must retain their supplied lubrication and condition. Preinstallation verification confirms assembly performance; tail separation does not replace this check.
