Twist drills cut metal with their cutting edges and remove chips through their flutes. Cobalt HSS variants are used where greater cutting-edge heat resistance is required.
Technical features
DIN 338 is a dimensional reference for jobber-length drills with parallel shanks. HSS means high-speed steel; cobalt may be part of the alloy. Titanium nitride, where present, is a surface coating.
Applications and assembly
Used in workshops, equipment assembly and maintenance. Speed, feed and lubrication must suit the workpiece material to preserve the cutting edge and hole quality.
