Class 8.8 Metric Hex Bolt – ISO 898-1
The metric class 8.8 hex bolt is made from quenched and tempered carbon or alloy steel and is used in machinery and equipment joints requiring greater strength than class 5.8. ISO 898-1 establishes its mechanical properties; the head marking identifies the specified strength class.

The metric class 8.8 hex bolt forms removable joints with nuts of a compatible property class. Its six-sided head accepts metric wrenches and sockets for tightening.
Technical features
ISO 898-1 class 8.8: up to 16 mm diameter, minimum tensile strength is 800 MPa and minimum 0.2% proof stress is 640 MPa. Above 16 mm, these minima are 830 and 660 MPa. ISO 4014 and ISO 4017 are dimensional references for partial and full threading.
Applications and assembly
Used in machinery and equipment joints requiring greater strength than class 5.8. Tightening torque depends on diameter, finish, lubrication and required preload. Thread length is selected with regard to grip thickness and the location of shear planes.
