Rail Spike
A rail spike secures rails or tie plates to timber sleepers. Its head retains the track component while the shank is driven into the timber to provide the fixing. It secures rails or tie plates to timber sleepers.

A rail spike is a steel fastener for tracks using timber sleepers. The head bears on the rail or tie plate, and the shank is installed by driving it into the sleeper.
Technical features
Section, length, point and head follow the railway drawing. ASTM A65 may be specified for steel track spikes. Material, hardness and finish follow the project requirements.
Applications and assembly
Used on industrial, mining and railway tracks. Selection depends on the rail profile, tie plate and sleeper. Unlike a rail screw spike, it does not use a thread to achieve retention.
