J-Bolt Anchor – ASTM F1554
A J-shaped anchor bolt connects column bases, equipment and supports to concrete foundations. The curved hook is embedded and helps transfer tensile force into the concrete. The projecting threaded end accepts the leveling and fastening nuts specified for the assembly.

The J-shaped anchor is positioned before the foundation is poured. Its threaded end projects above the concrete to receive the base plate, washers and nuts.
Technical features
ASTM F1554 grades 36, 55 and 105 specify minimum yield strengths of 36, 55 and 105 ksi, respectively. Yield strength indicates the onset of permanent deformation; it is not the anchor’s capacity in concrete. Geometry and embedment follow the drawing; inch threads follow ASME B1.1. One ksi is approximately 6.895 MPa.
Applications and assembly
The curved hook is embedded and helps transfer tensile force into the concrete. Applications include steel structures, pedestals and machinery foundations. A template holds the anchors in position during concrete placement, while exposed threads should be protected from concrete contamination and installation damage.
