Grade B8M Stainless Steel Heavy Hex Bolt – ASTM A193
The ASTM A193 grade B8M heavy hex bolt is made from molybdenum-bearing type 316 austenitic stainless steel. Its head provides a larger bearing area than a standard hex head. It is paired with ASTM A194 grade 8M nuts according to assembly class and service requirements.

The grade B8M heavy hex bolt combines a larger width across flats with ASTM A193 material properties. It is used in removable connections for equipment, flanges and industrial components.
Technical features
ASTM A193 B8M identifies 316 stainless steel. Class 1 has minimum tensile and yield strengths of 75 and 30 ksi. For strain-hardened class 2 up to ¾-inch diameter, the minima are 110 and 95 ksi. These differ from B8 class 2 values. Inch threads follow ASME B1.1.
Applications and assembly
Molybdenum improves resistance to pitting corrosion compared with type 304; chloride concentration and temperature remain selection factors. The assembly commonly includes an ASTM A194 grade 8M nut. Grip length and supply class must suit the connection design.
